About Us

Introduction

Welcome to the Somavamsha Arya Kshatriya community page — a space dedicated to sharing the story and heritage of our people. This platform was created to encourage religious, social, educational, and cultural connection among SAK families residing at Bangalore, Karnataka.

Our core mission is to bring the community together and to safeguard our shared social, economic, and educational interests. We believe this is best achieved through open communication and stronger bonds within the Samaj, which is why this page exists — to reach our people more directly and effectively. The content shared here is also meant to introduce younger generations to the legacy of our ancestors, the Arya Maharaj.

History and Origin

Our community traces its roots to the Somavamsha (or Chandravamsha) Kshatriyas, one of three principal Kshatriya lineages in India — alongside the Sahasra Vamsha and Agni Vamsha. Somavamsha Kshatriyas are considered descendants of Soma, the Moon, and belong to what is known as the Lunar Dynasty. Within the Hindu Varna system, "Somavamsha Kshatriya" denotes this second-tier warrior lineage — literally, the "Moon Dynasty of Warriors."

The name "Arya" in Somavamsha Arya Kshatriya carries its own significance within our community's oral tradition. Many SAK families understand it as a reference to Emperor Arjun, said to have been granted a thousand arms by Lord Dattatreya in recognition of his devotion. Arjun was known for protecting the weak and vulnerable from injustice, and the word "Arya" itself is often associated with the number "a thousand" in this context.

More broadly, "Arya" is a well-known Sanskrit name — used as both a given name and a surname, for men (आर्य, ārya) and women (आर्या, āryā) alike — carrying the meaning "honorable" or "noble." It remains a common name across India and Iran today. Beyond its literal meaning, various legends and folk stories have grown around the strength and symbolism associated with the name.

These stories are shared here especially for younger readers who may not have had much direct exposure to SAK community traditions and history. Parents and elders are encouraged to guide younger family members through this content, in the hope that it inspires curiosity and pride in our shared heritage.
